Switching your ERP to Odoo · DATEV Mittelstand Faktura

DATEV Mittelstand Faktura ends on 31 Dec 2026 – Auftragswesen next or Odoo?

DATEV is discontinuing Mittelstand Faktura as a standalone product at the end of the year; the “Mittelstand Faktura mit Rechnungswesen” packages are not affected. The included contract for DATEV Unternehmen online also ends with the product, unless you actively have it continued. The successor Auftragswesen next writes sales documents in the cloud – nothing more. If you also want to cover inventory, purchasing, projects or CRM, you need to make a decision now. At a fixed price, we check which path fits your business, and we stick to one principle: your tax advisor keeps working with DATEV.

Your data

Export beforehand

DATEV recommends exporting data as CSV or XML and alternatively refers to solutions from the DATEV marketplace. Customers, products and open invoices can be migrated from it into a new system; old documents remain readable as an archive.

Source: DATEV, FAQ on the discontinuation

DATEV does not mention inventory, manufacturing, CRM or projects in the scope of Auftragswesen next. That's not a criticism: the product is built for writing documents. The only question is whether writing documents is all your business needs in 2027.

The two paths

Auftragswesen next or Odoo – an objective comparison

Both are valid decisions. Which one is right depends on what else happens in your business besides invoices.

Path 1

DATEV Auftragswesen next

The smallest step: keep writing documents in the DATEV world, the handover to the tax firm stays built in.

  • Quotation to credit note, e-invoicing according to EN 16931
  • €7 per month, Unternehmen online contract required
  • A good fit if you have few users and don't need to cover anything other than invoices
  • Inventory, purchasing, CRM, projects, manufacturing: not within the described scope

Path 2

Odoo – with DATEV for the tax firm

The bigger step: invoices, orders, inventory, purchasing, CRM and projects in one database, GoBD-compliant accounting, handover to the tax advisor via DATEV export.

  • Quotation to credit note, plus delivery notes with stock posting, purchase orders, customer history
  • E-invoicing: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Peppol in the standard
  • DATEV export of entries and documents (Odoo Enterprise); direct connection to Unternehmen online possible via an add-on module
  • A good fit if several areas or several employees need to work together
  • Licence per user (prices at odoo.com) and an implementation project you know upfront

What stays the same in both cases: your tax advisor, their DATEV environment and your obligation to retain old documents. The only thing that changes is what you work with in your business. How Odoo and DATEV work together: GoBD and DATEV.

FAQ

Questions about the end of DATEV Mittelstand Faktura

Does the discontinuation also affect Mittelstand Faktura mit Rechnungswesen?

No. According to DATEV, the “DATEV Mittelstand Faktura mit Rechnungswesen” packages, including the compact variants, and the supplementary package are not affected. What has been discontinued is the standalone product Mittelstand Faktura (item no. 93600) and the ITU version (93500). If you have an accounting package, you are not under time pressure; a switch then only pays off for the reasons that apply to any business: several systems side by side, inventory, projects, an online shop.

Is Odoo a DATEV interface or a DATEV replacement?

Neither. Odoo replaces Faktura – quotations, orders, invoices – plus inventory, purchasing and CRM. Your tax advisor keeps working with DATEV: entries and documents go from Odoo to the tax firm via DATEV export, or, if you wish, directly into DATEV Unternehmen online via an add-on module.

Isn't Auftragswesen next simply enough?

If you only write sales documents and need nothing else: yes, and we'll tell you so. As soon as inventory, purchasing, projects, CRM or several employees with their own tasks come into play, Auftragswesen next is not described for that according to DATEV. Then a system that covers these areas pays off.

What happens to my data from Mittelstand Faktura?

DATEV recommends exporting data as CSV or XML before 31 Dec 2026. Customers, products and open invoices can be migrated from it into Odoo. Old documents remain readable as an export archive; the retention obligation continues to apply.

Can we make it by the turn of the year?

For a business with sales, purchasing and inventory without special processes: yes, if the check starts in October or November. If you only start in December, set the cut-over date to 1 February and write January invoices differently in the interim. We clarify this in the initial call.

What does the switch cost?

The switch check costs €1,190 net and provides the cost range for your case. Small businesses with standard processes often start with Rocket Start (€1,035) afterwards. The Odoo licence comes on top; current prices are listed at odoo.com.
