Switching your ERP to Odoo · Sage 100
Since 1 January 2025, Sage only delivers new releases and updates for the Sage 100 Connected subscription model. The perpetual licence continues in “Extended Support”: without software updates, without personalised support and without help when changing operating systems or databases. The system doesn't stop, but it stands still. If you already run an online shop, CRM or projects alongside Sage, now is your chance to turn several systems into one. At a fixed price, we check which path fits your business, including an honest assessment of your Sage customisations.
Official Odoo Partner · fixed price upfront · Sage stays in operation until the cut-over date and then as an archive
What Sage has announced
Since 1 Jan 2025
No further software updates, no personalised support, no help with system changes (operating system, database server) and third-party solutions (e-balance sheet, online shop). Since 1 October 2023, extensions are only available for Sage 100 Connected. The licence itself continues to run.

Statutory changes
According to Sage's FAQ on Extended Support, statutory changes that take effect after 31 Dec 2024 will no longer be implemented for Sage 100 Desktop. The obligation to send e-invoices applies from 2027 for companies with more than €800,000 in prior-year revenue and from 2028 for everyone. Whether your version already generates them correctly is something to check, not to assume.

The successor
Same product, same interface, installed locally, according to Sage without data migration when switching. Plus cloud services and a comfort package with email sending and e-invoices. According to the roadmap, version 9.0 will be maintained at least until the turn of 2026/27. Sage only quotes prices through partners.

Office Line, the predecessor of Sage 100, has had no updates and no personalised support since 1 July 2022. If you still work with it, you have the same two paths, just with less time.
The two paths
Both are valid decisions. The difference isn't in inventory management – both can do that. It lies in what runs alongside Sage today, and in the question of who will maintain your customisations in the future.
Path 1
The smallest step: updates are back, interface and data stay, customisations keep running, billed as a subscription.
Path 2
The bigger step: inventory, purchasing, sales, accounting, CRM, online shop, projects and service in one database. DATEV export to the tax firm.
What stays the same in both cases: your tax advisor and their DATEV environment, your retention obligation and your Desktop licence as a readable archive. How Odoo and DATEV work together: GoBD and DATEV.
The real hurdle
Sage 100 installations are rarely standard. Over the years, document templates, extra fields, reports, import routines and partner modules get added. In the switch check, each of these customisations gets a row in the migration matrix:
| Typical Sage customisation | In Odoo | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Custom document templates (quotation, invoice, delivery note) | Report templates with company layout, multilingual | Standard |
| Extra fields on addresses and products | Custom fields without programming | Configuration |
| Customer-specific pricelists, tiers, discounts | Pricelists with rules and tiers | Standard |
| Reports and Excel exports | Pivot, lists, dashboards, export | Standard |
| Bills of materials and simple manufacturing orders | Manufacturing with bills of materials and routings | Standard, to be checked |
| Online shop connection via partner connector | Integrated Odoo shop or interface to the existing shop | Case by case |
| Custom import routines and automations | Automated actions, interfaces | Configuration or development |
| Partner modules with industry logic | Assessed individually | Development or deliberately dropped |
The table shows typical cases, not yours. How full each column is for you is set out in writing after the check, with the effort per row. Only then do you decide.
Timeline
Sage isn't switching anything off, so you can choose the cut-over date freely. 1 January has two advantages: balances and open items are reconciled anyway, and the 2027 e-invoicing obligation is covered on time.
Review the database and customisations, clarify scope, migration matrix, target picture and cost range in writing. One to two weeks.
Connected or Odoo. With Odoo: migrate master data, pricelists and bills of materials, set up document templates, e-invoicing and DATEV export.
Your team works in parallel with real data for a few days. The tax advisor receives a trial export. Sage keeps running.
Open items, balances and stock at cut-over in Odoo. Sage remains readable as an archive. Four weeks of support.
Businesses with manufacturing or many customisations are better off planning with an extra quarter: check in autumn, go-live on 1 April. That's not a step back, it's the difference between a switch and a construction site.

FAQ
Yes. The perpetual licence keeps working, Sage isn't switching anything off. What's missing are updates, hotfixes, personalised support and, according to Sage's FAQ, the implementation of statutory changes after 31 Dec 2024. The risk grows with every Windows or SQL Server update and with every new obligation, most recently e-invoicing.
That's the smallest step: same product, same interface, according to Sage without data migration, but as a subscription. If Sage 100 suits you functionally and you just want your updates back, that's the right decision – and we'll tell you so. Odoo pays off if you also want to connect the online shop, CRM, projects or service that run alongside Sage today, or if you want to move away from partner-dependent customisations.
That's the most important question in the switch check. Each customisation gets one of three ratings: Odoo standard covers it, configuration is enough, or it needs development. Much of what was once programmed in Sage exists as a feature in Odoo; that's why a large share often ends up in the first two columns. Whatever remains is costed in terms of effort before you decide.
Sage 100 stores its data in a Microsoft SQL Server database. Addresses, products, pricelists, bills of materials, open items and stock can be migrated from it in a structured way. Documents and entries from previous years remain in Sage as an archive: your Desktop licence keeps running, which is enough for read access. The retention obligation continues to apply – the tool you use to look things up simply stays the same.
Two ways: Odoo Accounting in-house, GoBD-compliant with DATEV export to the tax firm, or only invoicing and inventory in Odoo with accounting entirely with the tax advisor. Both happen. At the cut-over date, open items and balances are migrated, not the booking history. Details on our GoBD and DATEV page.
The switch check costs €1,190 net. With manufacturing, multiple companies or many customisations, we recommend the switch check Plus for €2,390 with 16 hours. Both provide the cost range for your case before you commission anything. The Odoo licence comes on top; current prices are listed at odoo.com.
